It is spooky season, and the weather is getting colder, so it is time to snuggle under the covers and watch some anime! Here are some of the anime that I think are good to watch around Halloween.
This is in no particular order, but I would start with Soul Eater! Soul Eater aired back in 2008 but it is still one of my favorites. And it has maybe the best whimsical Halloween theme to the whole show. This show is about Soul, a death scythe that is trying to become a grim reaper with his partner Maka, but the kishin (evil spirits) keep getting in their way.
If you are looking for a good horror fix, then Another is what you are looking for. Another follows a classroom where unfortunate things start to happen to all the classmates, can they break the curse before they all die? This show can be gory and hard to watch at times but if you can handle it then you will love this anime.
If you want a good psychological thriller then I present Higurashi, When They Cry. I would start with the 2006 series; it is a slow burn, but the payoff is so worth it. There are scenes from this show that still haunt me. It is set in 1983 and follows a group of friends that have some unfortunate things happen to them. I say this show is best going in blind so I will not say any more.
If you are the type that wants ghost, then Ghost Hunt has got you covered. This show is about a young high school student that joins the Shibuya Psychic Research or SPR for short, they go around investigating ghost stories around Japan. It is a great anime to watch
But while we are on ghost’s there is one more show I want to recommend and that is Ghost Stories, the English Dub. This show is hilarious to watch with the English dub, the dub has gone off the wall with the translation and thew out the original script. If nothing else grab some popcorn, load this up and have a good time.
There are plenty of other good anime for the Halloween season to watch, this may be the best season for finding anime to set the mood, but these are the ones I will be watching.
